Icebreaker Fuji 砕氷艦ふじ
It is the 12th Antarctic observation support that I got on "Icebreaker Fuji". My 20 year old adult ceremony was Antarctic. So the number of "5001" on this icebreaker is very nostalgic for me.
When I boarded this ship and crossed the voyage of Antarctica I was watching the iceberg spreading on the horizon. This ship crushed drift ice and headed towards Syowa Station.
The icebreaker was moving forward confirming the position of drift ice. Advancing forward and returning to the back, the icebreaker was moving forward while repeating this. It was the deputy captain who was steering the helm.
It is a little earlier movement than the steering I have always watched. The drift ice wrapped around the screw is strongly sucked into the screw. And it is making a noise with Vavava.
At that time the icebreaker made a sound called Zuggon. I did not know for a moment whether something happened, but when the deputy captain ordered the next steering command, the icebreaker began shaking wide laterally.
Yes, The Screw feathers of the icebreaker were broken with drift ice. For that reason the icebreaker then could not move. The icebreaker was trapped in the sea of ice for a month on the spot.

砕氷艦ふじ 5001 "Icebreaker Fuji 5001"
「砕氷艦ふじ」に乗ったのは第12次南極観測支援。二十歳の成人式は南極で迎えた。「5001」のナンバーは懐かしい。私が乗船して南極の航海を渡るとき地平線に広がる氷山を見ながら、流氷を掻き分けて前に進んでいた。甲板の操舵室から流氷の位置を確認しながら砕氷艦ふじを前進、後進の繰り返しでかじ取りをしていたのが、副艦長だった。いつも見ている舵取りより少し早めの動き。スクリュウに絡む流氷が行きよいづいてヴァヴァヴァと音を立てている。そんな時ヅッゴンという響き。何か起きたのか一瞬分からなかったが、次の操舵の支持が出されたとき砕氷艦は大きく横揺れをし始めた。そう、スクリュウの羽を大きな流氷によって折られてしまったのである。砕氷艦は身動きが取れず、そのまま1カ月間厚い流氷に閉じ込められてしまった。
